A Brief History

Sharon - that's me! I was born in Buxton, Derbyshire on 3rd April 1972, making me an Easter Bunny as I was born on Easter Monday! I started my academic life at Hardwick Square Infants School, followed by a move to Buxton Junior School. I then was accepted at St. Thomas More R.C. High School - also in Buxton - where I did my GCSE’s, followed by A Levels at Aquinas College in Stockport, Cheshire. This involved a daily journey in my first car, a little black mini called Rosa! My Mum and Nan now both live in Leek, Staffordshire, having left Buxton for warmer climes! My Dad unfortunately suddenly died in 1991 and I still miss him lots, not a day goes by when I don’t think of him.

After A Levels I went to Oxford Brookes University to study Geological Sciences, where I graduated in1994 with a BSc(Hons). I was sad to see that Oxford Brookes decided back in 2002 that Summer 2004 would be the final graduating class for Geology. It was whilst at Oxford, living in halls in Wheatley, that I met my now husband David, on the second day of Fresher’s Week. We started courting (!!) on November 30th 1991. David was studying Computing and he graduated in 1995 with a First Class Honours Degree (yes, I am envious but also very proud). During 1995 I was studying for an MSc in Computing, which I soon realised was not for me, so I continued working for Next in Oxford, where I had commenced employment as a Saturday Girl!

We moved to Hounslow in 1995 when David got his first “proper job” for British Airways. I was working for Next in Slough, eventually being promoted to Womenswear Floor Manager. In 1996 David left BA for pastures new, in the form of Oracle. In 1997, I followed…

David decided on his 25th birthday (13th February 1998) that he would make an honest woman of me, and propsed whilst we were away in Le Touquet celebrating his birthday. Our wedding was planned for 28th November 1998. It took place on the same date as David’s Mum and Dad’s wedding, in the same church - St. Nicholas’ in Middleton-on-Sea, West Sussex and the sharp-eyed amongst you will note that our wedding day was almost exactly 7 years to the day that we started dating. So much for the Seven Year Itch!

David has since had jobs for Arthur Anderson and is now working for Percussion, a Content Management Software company (double yawn!). I have been around a bit since leaving Oracle in 1999, having temped for a while, being given a permanent job from which I was made redundant, temping again and then finally coming to my decision to go back to University to study to become a Midwife.

David and I are proud Godparents to Harry James Sullivan (born July 2000) and Alice Rose Bailey (born July 2001). It is our duty to take them to rap concerts over the coming years…!!! Lots of our friends and family have websites. If you want to take a look, check out the links on the right hand side of this page.We have a passion for travel, sailing and Jamiroquai. You can read a bit more about these if you like!
